RIZE

Its absolutely frightening what gets remembered. About halfway through the film, a montage of traditional African dancers juxtaposed against “clowns” and “krumps” produces one of the most awe inspiring déjà vu moments ever. The opening seen is a stylized recreation of the Rodney King beating that is transformed into one of the most energetic dance forms ever. About 15 minutes into the film you realize . . . and still we rise. Its like the first time you heard Richard Pryor; the first time you read Countee Cullen; your first sack; your first knock out; the first time you saw Jordan dunk from the free throw line! These kids are on some Other shit. And this time, they are self aware.

Go see RIZE by David LaChapelle.
