Separate and Unequal: The Shadow of the Crow in American Education

The simple fact of the matter is that America is still a country based on racial inequality and segregation. While we spin yarns and fantasies about no child left behind, ownership societies and the near defeat of racism the fact remains that the legacies of America’s violent racist past have never passed. If we look at the history of Brown v Board of Education and the subsequent cases that have formed the foundation for our equal education system it becomes clear that integration and equality were never the goal of the government only the dream of a minority of Americans. If we look at the evidence we can see the pattern of the systematic segregation of resources that perpetuated a de-facto segregation just long enough for the law to re-instantiate segregation at the level of social systems and access to resources. While Americans decry the condition of our educational system they have only themselves to blame. The very system of non-educating education that was used to suppress African Americans and the majority of the poor and disenfranchised has now metastasized through the entire system. Now the American educational system is in an abysmal state of disrepair and the country has only itself to blame. The state of the educational system is a mirror image of the compassion and humanity of a civilization.

Guess what ya’ll . . . we sick.
